Paula at the Medalta International Artists in Residence Program

Historic Medalta Potteries

Paula just finished up her July residency with the Medalta International Artists in Residence Program, at the historic Medalta Potteries Site in Medicine Hat, Alberta (www.medalta.org.)  She joined eight other ceramic artists, from various locales including Utah, Virginia, New York, and Ontario to share ideas, experiences and techniques.  The days were long but full of energy, conversation and laughter. Many pieces were created and ranged from the functional to the sculptural, from the pedestal to installation, from tiny to life size. Paula spent her days experimenting with atmospheric firings such as soda, salt and wood, trying new clay bodies and surface treatments, and beginning some new sculptural work.  She finished her residency tired but with a head full of ideas and she is excited to see what work evolves out of this great experience!
